Are you campaigning to save a domestic violence service?
If funding for your local domestic violence prevention programme or integrated support service has definitely been/or is about to be withdrawn, Respect encourages you to set up a campaign in your local area to try to save these services from closure.
To help you do this you may want to refer to the Respect members' resources pack and begin by writing to your local MP to encourage them to support you in your campaign. Respect has produced a template letter which you can download to help you write to your MP.
Download: Template letter to MP - Save our service
To send the letter to your MP:
- Go to www.writetothem.com
- Type your postcode into the box that appears and click "go"
- You will now be taken to a page which sets out all your elected representatives
- Look at the column which is headed "Select your Member of Parliament". Now click on the name of your MP
- You will now be taken to a page where you can enter your name, address and a message to your MP
- Now cut and pate the text of the letter to your MP from the template (see download above) into the large white text box on the screen. Remember to amend the template text where you are prompted to (see yellow highlighted text sections) so it is specific to your local situation and sign off in your own name
- When you have done all of the above, click on "preview your message" and if you are happy with it, click "send message".

Sustaining the Sector
Here at Respect, we're aware that both the recession and potential future public service cuts are putting some of our members under significant financial pressure. We want to do all we can to make sure that our members' services survive this rocky time.
Cuts Watch surveys (2010-2011)
Cuts Watch 1
Our first step has been to find out the extent of the problem of funding cuts and to monitor the issue on an ongoing basis. We've asked all Respect member organisations to fill short Cuts Watch surveys - to give us a snapshot of how things are and help inform both our lobbying and member support activities.
We have produced a series of reports of the findings from Cuts Watch surveys.

Sustaining the Sector Action Group
Respect has also set up the Sustaining the Sector Action Group to take forward our programme of work on this issue. The group comprises Respect members, Respect Executive Committee Members and Respect staff.
Respect's two main strategic lobbying aims have been agreed as:
- Proactively supporting our members to lobby successfully, prevent closures and help them survive
- Preventing cuts to Respect services and sustaining Respect's core work - the stronger Respect is, the more we can support you
Our action plan includes:
- Directly lobbying of central government on behalf of the sector and Respect
- Giving members the tools* and support to carry out their own local lobbying
* Additional lobbying tools/resources will be uploaded to this website and distributed to members by email.
Respect members will receive regular updates on the work of the Sustaining the Sector Action Group via member e-updates.
