Same-sex relationships
Are you hurting the one you love?
Domestic violence affects women and men in same-sex relationships too.
The Respect Phoneline 0845 122 8609 welcomes calls from lesbians, gay men as well as bisexual and trans people.
We know how difficult it is to talk about your abusive and violent behaviour towards your partner, especially if, for any reason, you don't want to come out. Please remember that our service is confidential and your call is anonymous. We have a non-judgemental approach and we believe that specialist domestic violence services should be available for all, regardless of their sexuality.
If you have any concerns about the way you behave towards your partner, if you put them at risk or hurt them in any way and you want to stop you can call the Respect Phoneline on 0845 122 8609 and discuss your options.
Remember:
-It is never ok to use violence or abuse of any kind, no matter how angry, frustrated, jealous or unhappy you feel with your partner
-In the eyes of the victim, you only need to abuse once to become an abuser
-The impact of abuse doesn’t stop when you do. Your partner will be living in fear of you abusing them again. Is this the kind of relationship you want?
-If you have children or if your partner does, remember that they will be harmed by your abuse even if they don’t witness it
-You may be telling yourself ‘it’s not that bad’. How bad will it need to get before you do something about it?
You can choose to stop
