Respect contributed to the Government consultation to help shape its future responses to Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG).

In our response we shared our support for the joint sector principles published by Imkaan and EVAW and share the view that equal access to rights and entitlements for all women and girls must be a fundamental principle within the VAWG Strategy.

We endorsed the need for sustainable and equitable provision of ‘by and for’ specialist services and believe that VAWG can only end if we address those who are perpetrating abuse. This means challenging the social norms that facilitate abuse, intervening with those on the cusp of offending, those already causing serious harm, and all stages in between.

We want to see a range of interventions for all perpetrators of all forms of VAWG, delivered in all areas of the country and with all interventions subject to quality standards to ensure they are being safely delivered.
